Wallet becomes Walt: Telegram changes its crypto wallet experience

Telegram is changing the way users access and interact with crypto. The wallet that was previously available directly through Telegram settings is no longer going to be the main quick-access crypto option.

Instead, Gram Wallet will take that role, while the existing Wallet platform is moving forward under a new name: Walt.

🔄 What happened?

Wallet originally started as a simple service for buying Toncoin. Over time, however, it grew into a much broader crypto platform supporting more than 300 digital assets, along with trading, investing and income-related features.

According to the team, the old name no longer reflected what the product had become. The solution is a clearer separation between the two products.

Gram Wallet is being positioned as the simple, native wallet experience inside Telegram. It is designed for storing and sending crypto, as well as using Telegram's native digital assets and features.

Walt, meanwhile, will focus on the wider crypto experience.

💰 What happens to existing users?

For current users, the transition should be relatively straightforward.

The name and branding are changing, but users' assets, balances and the product itself remain in place. The team says there is nothing users need to do because of the rebrand.

The main change is how the two products are positioned and where users will access them.

🚀 Two products, different purposes

The new structure can essentially be summed up like this:

Gram Wallet → a simple crypto wallet built into Telegram.

Walt → trading, investing, earning and broader crypto functionality.

The two products will also work together. According to the Walt team, Gram can be funded directly from a user's Walt balance, creating a connection between the two services.

For Telegram users, this means the familiar Wallet is not simply disappearing. Instead, its role is being split between two products designed for different purposes.

Wallet becomes Walt, while Gram Wallet takes over as the simpler wallet experience inside Telegram.
